RESTING LION SCULPTURE Signed by American potter and teacher Margit Elsohn (1911-2007), New York
This proud sculpture of a lion resting atop a polished black stone slab was created by famed New York City potter and teacher Margit Elsohn (1911-2007). The lion is signed in black on its right arm, and a metal plaque affixed to the base is also engraved with the artist’s name. The lion is rendered in emotive, magestic, and restful textures and colors defined by earthen orange, yellow, and black along with form and shapes imbuing the lion with a sense of strength and compassion. It is an effective and striking work of 20th century American art pottery.
