Pair of ALUMINUM TAILOR’S LEGS from HOSIERY FACTORY for measuring women’s nylons, circa 1940s
This pair of aluminum tailor’s legs was used in a hosier factory in the 1940s for fitting and measuring women’s nylons. One leg is for size 10 and the other is for size 11. Numbered lengths are noted on notches running along the thighs. Metal bolts are fastened through the top edge of each leg and extend several inches back, allowing them to be hung from a shelf, mantle, or windowsill, or secured directly into a wall or mount.
