I moved to the Berkshires in 1998 after having had a successful career directing product design and development worldwide for numerous top-of-the-line companies, including Bally of Switzerland and Coach Leatherwear. I thrive on change, and this move was done with the intent to pursue my passion for decorating and antiquing. Besides setting up at shows throughout NY, MA and NH, I opened a 2000 square foot store in Canaan, NY (Sandy Klempner Antiques & Interiors). This stand-alone shop became renowned for having new, truly unusual pieces, brought in weekly; for being inventive in use and placement; and for offering true value. In addition, I developed a design clientele where homeowners sought out my eye for help in furnishing and laying out their homes. From a farmhouse in Alford to a contemporary estate in Richmond to a lakefront home in Monterey, I enjoy working with multiple styles and periods to bring a unique flavor to each project.
In April of 2014, I set up shop in the charming hamlet of West Stockbridge, located in the Berkshires, just minutes from Tanglewood and Kripalu. The new shop, like the town, is inviting and personal. Each item is tagged with a price and description to allow customers to learn more about the unique, often quirky pieces they’re interested in. The space is broken into room settings that blend early country with mid-20th Century and beyond. There’s a sun-filled porch that overlooks the water, where I work with design clients, and by popular demand, I’ve been able to continue with the worshipped “back room” for vintage and designer clothing that women have been running to check out on a regular basis.
I’m married to my soul-mate, Joseph Teller Klempner (Joe for short), who makes every day of my life better and has since the moment we met in February of 1987. He’s a retired defense attorney, published author, mensch, and has been known to pass for Paul Newman or Ralph Lauren, not too shabby! He, along with our three cats, George, Smokey and Tigger, make Sandy Klempner truly, At Home.
